STAAR Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer Foundation

STAAR was founded by three women—Alex, Bailey, and Jess—each diagnosed with low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC). United by their passion to extend lives through research, they launched the first U.S.-based nonprofit dedicated to finding effective treatments for LGSOC.

STAAR is governed and run by a volunteer board, half of whom are women with LGSOC. Because STAAR is volunteer-led, nearly every donation dollar directly benefits life-saving research.

Volunteers play a vital role in STAAR and serve on committees, the board of directors, lead or help with special projects, help at events, or join monthly volunteer meetings to lend ideas.

STAAR has agreed to contribute all funds raised on September 9th to the LGSOC Awareness Day Coalition Fund.

Verastem Oncology

At Verastem Oncology, we are advancing breakthroughs in oncology to address some of the toughest challenges in RAS/MAPK-pathway driven cancers - aggressive cancers that, despite advances in drug development, lack effective therapies targeting these critical mutations. We developed and commercialized the first-ever FDA approved treatment for KRAS-mutated recurrent low-grade serous ovarian cancer (LGSOC), a rare ovarian cancer, and are continuing to advance a clinical pipeline of novel small molecule drugs that inhibit critical signaling pathways in cancers that promote cancer cell survival and tumor growth, including RAF/MEK inhibition, FAK inhibition, and KRAS G12D inhibition.

Ovarian Cancer Project

The mission of the Ovarian Cancer Project is to educate the community about the symptoms and risk factors of gynecologic cancers and to provide supportive services to patients and their families affected by these cancers.
After being diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2009, Kathleen Maxian felt the isolation and fear that comes with a new diagnosis and didn't know where to turn for reliable information. In 2012, Maxian founded the Ovarian Cancer Project in response to this need. Since then, the Ovarian Cancer Project has become a trusted source of vital information, guidance, and support for survivors of gynecologic cancer and their families.

We are staff-run but volunteer-driven. As the staff at OCP is small, volunteers are a vital part of our organization. We recruit and train volunteers to attend community events, health fairs, and other gatherings to distribute materials and speak on behalf of the OCP. We also have weekly volunteers for office tasks, as well as volunteers who assist at our events throughout the year.

SHARE Cancer Support

SHARE Cancer Support is a national, peer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports and educates anyone who has been diagnosed with breast or gynecologic cancer and provides critical information to the general public about signs, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options.

SHARE has opportunities for individuals diagnosed with breast or gynecologic cancer to volunteer as trained peers on our disease-area-specific support lines and as support group facilitators.

We are launching a Low-Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer Support Group, facilitated by a trained peer who has had low-grade serous ovarian cancer and also volunteers on our ovarian cancer support line. This support group will allow participants to share experiences, ask questions, and connect with others who are also navigating low-grade serous ovarian cancer.
